- When you appeal to the highest level of thinking, you get the highest level of performance. – Jack Stack
This blog has been created to communicate with parents and guardians of students attending the Southwest Aeronautics Math and Science - SAMS - Academy. My aim in this venue is to disseminate information that is, practical, relevant, informative and hopefully, entertaining as well.
For those of you interested in keeping up-to-date with what I am posting here, I have provided a space located in the white box at the top of the main page where you can enter your e-mail to be notified of any new posts as soon as they are written.
Please rest assured, I will never share your e-mail with anyone.
You may occasionally see print within the body of this blog that is highlighted with a different color from the main text: such highlighted areas are actually links that will take you to other sites and provide you with additional information. Once you have visited a different site, all you have to do in order to return is double click on the back arrow located at the top left of your main screen. For example, if you click here, you will be taken to the new SAMS Student blog.
NEW BLOG:
Last week, I launched a new blog for Science students. You can click on this link here in order to visit the blog which is called, "The Rio Grande Rocket Company." It is where I will be posting:
1] "Feedback Assignments" - these are short responses that the students are required to complete via-email to the Science Team:
- Mrs Vaughn - Educational Assistant - e-mail address: gvaughn@samsacademy.com
- Mr. Mirabal, Science Teacher - e-mail address: jmirabal@samsacademy.com
A] Feedback Assignments are due within one week of their assignment.
- However, all assignments received by September 30, no points will be deducted for missing their origiinal deadline,
B] After that, all assignments are due within one week of posting and points will be deducted for missed deadlines at the rate of one point per week.
C] Each Feedback Assignment is worth 10 points each.
D] Feedback assignments are worth 10% of the final Science Grade.
2] The blog will contain friendly reminders of school policies such as this one regarding Student Lounge and Lunchtime guidelines.
3] I will also include posts for increasing best practices for learning that include Study Tips along with Test-taking and note-taking pointers as well.
4] Finally, I will post articles that give students an opportunity to understand how maximize their learning.
I want this blog to be informative for members of this community as well, so I will also post items of interest that help us to help our students maximize their learning. In that spirit, I hope to offer you insights that are far and away above anything parents outside of the SAMS family are receiving.
I truly believe that knowledge is power and the way to give our students an edge in this highly competitive world is through understanding how our children learn, what they are learning and how we can help them to be the best students possible.
Please feel free to contact me - at your convenience - if you ever need any clarification about anything I have posted here.
On a final note, I welcome comments but reserve the right to delete anything offensive, off-topic or potentially damaging to any of the members of our community.
Thank you for being so invested in your children,
J. Abran Mirabal
